The best way to treat an illness is to prevent it from ever developing when it comes to pets. That is why McGrath Veterinary Center advocates for preventive care with all of our wellness services, starting with the comprehensive physical exam. We also recommend a series of vaccines (updated regularly) as well as special attention to diet and nutrition. For our puppy patients, we offer wellness packages for various breeds that include these vaccines. Ideally, pets of all ages should receive a wellness exam at least once a year, but more frequent veterinary visits are recommended for senior pets.
ABOUT THE WELLNESS VISIT
We perform a thorough nose-to-tail assessment during your pet’s wellness exam to look for specific conditions that could indicate an illness or other condition. We then document the results to create a wellness profile used as a baseline for future visits. We also measure your pet’s Body Condition Score (BCS) to determine if there are any weight concerns. If necessary, we can discuss our maintenance and prescription diets and nutraceuticals that can help. In addition to the physical exam, your pet’s wellness visit includes a time of consultation when we discuss their behavior and lifestyle. Please feel free to ask any questions or share your concerns at this time.
